Prepared Ground

Built to order

Need a layer that isn't here?

Tell me what you want mapped and I'll build it as a Google Earth layer in the same style as the rest — $100 per layer, scoped and agreed by email before anything is paid.

How it works

There's no buy button, on purpose. At this price the thing most likely to go wrong is you paying for something that turns out not to exist as public data — so the scope gets settled first and the payment link comes after.

  1. Email me. support@preparedground.com, with what you want mapped, roughly what area, and any thresholds that matter to you. Reply usually within a day.
  2. I tell you whether it's buildable — which datasets it would come from, at what resolution, and where it would be weak. If it can't be done properly, I say so and that's the end of it. That costs you nothing.
  3. We agree the scope in writing, and I send you a payment link for $100.
  4. You get the layer by email, usually within a week, packaged like everything else: a .kmz plus a guide covering what it draws, how to filter with it, and where the numbers came from.

What's realistic

Anything derivable from a public dataset. Some things people have asked about: state or county rules of a particular kind, proximity rings around a set of places you care about, a screen weighted to your priorities rather than the built-in rubric, hazard or climate bands cut at different thresholds, or a rework of an existing layer with different categories switched on.

What isn't realistic: parcel-level anything. No flood determinations, no title or mineral rights, no property listings, no soil surveys. Those need a professional and a site visit, not a map layer.

One condition, stated plainly

Anything I build for you may also be sold here as a standard layer, to anyone.

The $100 buys the work of building it and your copy of the result. It does not buy exclusivity, and it does not make the layer yours alone. If what you commission turns out to be broadly useful, it will very likely end up in the standard set.

That's the trade that makes $100 possible at all — genuinely exclusive work would cost many times this. If you need a layer nobody else can buy, say so before you pay and we'll talk about what that actually costs instead.

Your inputs are a different matter. If you send me your own data, criteria or a list of places, that stays yours and doesn't get resold or published — it's the resulting general-purpose layer that may be listed, not anything personal you handed over. Say so explicitly if any of it is sensitive.
